The Price of Greed

Alpha Inc announced that they have lost a major client named Charlie Ducks. Charlie Ducks decided that they will be using Bravo League from now on, therefore taking their business from Alpha Inc and giving it to Bravo League.

In the wake of losing the Charlie Ducks account and its business, Alpha Inc had no choice but to lay off over 150 employees. Some of these employees had been working for Alpha Inc and on the Charlie Ducks account for many years, some only having the specialized skill set that Alpha Inc needed to run the Charlie Duck's business.

Meanwhile, it is announced at Alpha Inc that one of their upper management leaders was to resign at the end of the month.  Everyone at Alpha Inc was shocked to hear one of their leaders was leaving, after only being at Alpha Inc for a little over a year.  However, the workers were not surprised as this leader was never around, always on the road and "meeting" with "other" people.

A few weeks after the resignation announcement, it is found that this leader has accepted a higher paying job at Bravo League - The same Bravo League that Charlie Duck is using after taking their business away from Alpha Inc. Before this leader left for Bravo League, they were heard talking very loudly to their subordinates at Alpha Inc that they can now retire in 5 years as they are making more money with Bravo League than they did with Alpha Inc. They have also been offered a higher position with Bravo League.

As the word spread, the perception was that this leader brokered a deal with Bravo League. You see, this leader used to work for Charlie Ducks before coming over to Alpha Inc.  They used their influence into persuading Charlie Ducks into moving their business to Bravo League. And in return, for securing Charlie Ducks as a new client, Bravo League reward the former Alpha Inc leader a higher position with more money with them.

People laid off, possibly losing their cars, houses and the means to support their family – And their leader is now gone, leaving a trail of unemployed workers while they bask in the glory in their new posh office, happily  awaiting an early retirement.
