Movie Review: Spanglish
this is such a good movie....i just got done watching it....and by far this is the best performance from adam sandler that i've ever seen....his character john is "the best chef in the u.s"....he owns a resturant with a staff that's good enough where he can balance his career and family life....he loves spending time with his kids and makes for an epecially good father....his wife deborah (tea leoni) however is a woman whose lost herself....she's unemployed and now is a stay at home mom, however she's been a career woman for so long, it's as if she forgot how to be a mom....and she's cracked....deborah lost her identity when she lost her job....feeling lost she runs herself into the ground with low self esteem issues and jeopordizes her marriage....
now introducing flor moreno (paz vega)....a drop dead GORGEOUS single mother from mexico, who flees the barrios with her daughter to settle in los angeles....they live in a spanish neighborhood where she never leaves and never has to learn english, trying to keep her spanish influence alive in herself and her daughter....flor is working two jobs to support her and her daughter....and it's not until her daughter cristina (i forget the actress's name - but she is beautiful) becomes of age where boys start coming in the the picture where flor realizes that she needs to find ONE job that pays enough to be at home with cristina.... flor goes job hunting and finds john & deborah and they hire her to be their housekeeper....still only knowing few english words, she manages to do the job....and the movie takes off from there....
though a little long, you leave the theater with a good feeling....paz vega is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous....and the camera loves her....and adam sandler is brilliant, playing the doting father and loyal husband....his expressions, his ambience is just heart warming....a character you can relate to as well as tea leoni, yeah she could have toned down a little bit, but she was great....it was just kinda hard to see sandler and leoni being a couple on the screen and it looks a little off....but it works out....and the best part of the film that i liked was there were no subtitles....even though you might not understand spanish....you will understand spanglish....
