Movie Review: Elektra, White Chicks, Equalibrium

well this weekend i saw a few movies......

first, on friday i went to the dollars and watched ELEKTRA......and lets just say, i'm glad i waited for it to get to the dollars.......the movie was okay.......but not the greatest.......elektra died and was brought back to life.......why?????.......i dunno.......but what she ends up being is a hired assasin......(not the BEST profession to get into when you get a 2nd chance at life).......then she's hired to kill a father/daughter team and ends up having a heart......and instead of killing them, she protects them from the "super assasins" sent to kill them all......now these badies have cool powers......tattoos coming alive, a hold on death's breath, super human strength.......stuff like that, so it makes the movie a little more interesting.......fight scenes and all......a little bit like the matrix, a little bit like crouching tiger.......but it wasn't the best movie.......it reminded me too much of ALIAS and jennifer garner's other alter-ego sydney bristow.......orders, military lingo, structure, stuff like that.......i dunno......it was prolly just me.......being the ALIAS fan that i am, it's hard to see jennifer garner playing a different type of role......it was like watching jennifer garner, play sydney bristow, imitating elektra......the movie over all was alright......but probaly something i wouldn't pay to see again........

after that......i came home early and raided my bro's DVD collection and found WHITE CHICKS......it was funny, but not knee slapping hilarious......the wayans always come up with off the wall comedy.......it was alright

on saturday......my bro rented EQUILIBRIUM with christian bale and taye diggs......and i must say......after watching this movie, i'm excited to see bale in BATMAN BEGINS this summer.......he was intense in this film......when i first began the movie, without really knowing anything about it......the first thing that came to mind was the book "BRAVE NEW WORLD".......the similaries are shocking.......all the way down to the "T's" and "inhibitors"........the movie is about a world without emotion......where displaying any kind of emotion is considered a crime punishable by death......a world without love, hate, anger, jealousy......a world without war, crime or individuality......bale plays a high ranking official who is highly trained in the art of eliminating offenders......until he himself starts to feel emotion and realizes emotion is human nature.......emotion is what separates us from machines.......martial arts and guns are the action in this flick......along with a little bit of fencing and swordplay.......it is beautifully made......and i would prolly see it again before my brother has to take it back.......i liked the way the film makers portrayed and emotionless world......no music, no color, no differential......same clothes, same hairstyle, no questions......and bale was flawless.......his portayal of an emotionless man was uncanny......and then when he started to feel......his eyes let us know.......i don't know if this movie was ripped from the pages of BRAVE NEW WORLD.......it's been years since i read it.....but it reminded me of it.......the "T's" gave it away......overall......great movie......makes you think about humanity.......
